This 500 million euro “green loan” signed between Iberdrola and BBVA bank is the very first green loan issued in the energy sector
Green loans are used to define the transactions that give access to the financing or refinancing of responsible green projects. This operation will allow Iberdrola to finance transmission projects located in Scotland, aiming at connecting wind power plants to the network and to improve the efficiency of the network in terms of energy management request, though contributing to fight against climate change and the energy management.
Vigeo Eiris evaluated this green loan and provided its opinion on the environmental purposes, its contribution to sustainable development and the responsible management of the loan, aligned with the sustainable development goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations and the Green Bond Principles.
With this operation, Iberdrola and BBVA contribute to the development of green finance and the achievement of the SDGs.
