A United Nations Guide to companies on Business and Human Rights reporting
This framework, based on the UN Guiding Principles, provides reporting guidelines to companies on their respect of Human Rights principles
This framework « UNGP Reporting Framework » provides an operational guide to companies to report meaningfully on their human rights performance. It is comprised of 31 questions, with a flexible approach offered to beginners, enabling companies new to this framework to report on 8 questions in order to meet the minimum threshold. This introductory approach aims at promoting a cycle of continuous improvement for companies.
This guide supplements the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights adopted by the UN Council in June 2011. This UN resolution had consecrated the adoption of Ruggie’s report on companies’ social responsibility in Human Rights “Protect, Respect and Remedy”.
Companies’ respect of Human Rights is a social responsibility domain of evaluation in itself in the rating framework of Vigeo Eiris, alongside Environment, Community Involvement, Business Behaviour, Governance, and Human Resources. The agency evaluates the ability of each company to respect : fundamental Human Rights, freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining, non-discrimination, promotion of diversity, elimination of child labour and forced labour, and the integration of Human Rights in the supply chain and the selection of suppliers.
Vigeo Eiris is about to publish the results of its new comparative study on the integration and respect of fundamental Human Rights by companies at the international level. This study, based on the rating of more than 3,000 listed companies in 35 countries shows impressive results.
To unveil those results, Vigeo Eiris will organise a conference on February 21St, 2017 in partnership with EDH (Entreprises pour les Droits de l’Homme). A previous Vigeo Eiris was published on the same subject.
